We will meet on the first Saturday of every month. We will converse, chat and laugh together. Everyone will have a chance to speak the Irish language. It will be free of charge. Everybody is welcome.

 Introduction to Irish language literature. Deepen your knowledge and appreciation and comprehension of the Irish language by reading plainly written selections from its literature. The instructor will supply readings of accessible Irish language short stories. 8 sessions. Thursdays 6:30-8:00 pm. September 20 - November 8.  Preparation for the European Certificate in Irish/TEG (Teastas Eorpach na Gaeilge). Adult learners - from experienced beginners to intermediate learners - undertake a structured curriculum to prepare them for the only internationally recognized general Irish language proficiency exam for adults in 2019 (or 2020). Derived from the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, the TEG Certificate in Irish originates in Ireland’s Maynooth University and is administered annually in specific cities in Ireland, Europe, Canada, and the U.S. Students take it at various levels from Beginner to Advanced. 12 sessions.  Poetry, Prose, and Plays of W.B. Yeats, a Mystical Dreamer and Mythic Modernist. Learn how the multi-talented genius, William Butler Yeats (1865-1939), shaped Irish national consciousness with a mystical symbolism combined with a mythological method. The course will trace how he shifted from Romanticism to Modernism as he progressed and transformed as a poet from the 1880s until the 1930s. 10 sessions.  Course of Irish History with an emphasis on the Easter Rising 1916. Expand your knowledge of Irish history with a comprehensive survey course culminating in a close examination of the 1916 Easter Rising, when the Irish Republic was proclaimed. A special additional feature of the course will be reading the nuanced views of a sympathetic English observer, G.K. Chesterton. 10 sessions. Tuesdays.  Enjoying Gothic horror: Poe and Bram Stoker. Expand your knowledge of the parallel traditions of American and Irish horror in a short course exploring the key masterpieces in short fiction of the iconic Edgar Allan Poe (1809-1849) and the Anglo-Irish master, Bram Stoker (1847-1912). The literature of nightmare has many dimensions. The course will explore the biographies and cultural context of each author while relishing the magnificent weirdness of their imaginations. 5 sessions. Mondays. McKiernan Library.  No Sweat Irish: Fundamental Informal Irish for beginners of all ages. Perfect for beginning learners, this fun class features songs, games, and brief role-playing alongside an accessible easy-to-read textbook to make Irish language learning enjoyable. 8 sessions.  Drawing Celtic Mythology. Learn how the haunting and magical gods, goddesses, heroes, magicians, and landscapes of the Celtic realms can be given creative expression and re-interpretation in a class for beginners and enthusiasts at all levels. The principles of formal composition and color theory will be applied to this inspirational mythic and iconic imagery. 6 sessions. 8:00-9:30 pm. Thursday October 4, 11, 18, 25 and November 1, and 8.  The Roots and Branches of Celtic Music. A cultural seminar to expand your knowledge of the history and transmission of Celtic music (with an emphasis on Ireland) in a research-based survey course featuring live performances of selections of the music presented by Bundle & Go. 4 sessions.
