Self-portraits in Poetry: Creative Writing Workshop, June 9 &16
1:00-2:30pm Saturday, June 9 and June 16 (2 sessions). Class fee: $50 or $45 if you email the instructor to pre-register. Email: Deanna.Larsen-Quinn@normandale.edu.
Students will explore self-expression through sensory and figurative language in multiple poetic forms, including persona poetry, section poems, and narrative poetry. We will examine the work of W.B. Yeats and other contemporary poets. In this course, poetry is approached as a playful experiment. All skill levels are welcome; if you’re having fun, then you’re doing it right! Poetry can be a surprising process of discovery and invention for anyone with an open mind. Bring a pen and paper and find out how poetry inspires catharsis, allows us to investigate the multiple facets of our identity, and helps reshape our personal narratives. Students will receive a Poetry Packet with additional poems, writing prompts, idea generation strategies, and revision activities.
