Join us in The Eoin Mckiernan Library in the Celtic Junction Arts Center from 1pm – 6pm on November 3rd as we celebrate Oireachtas na Samhna live from Killarney in County Kerry.

We will have an ‘O Riada Party’ as we listen to the flagship competition of the Oireachtas, Corn Uí Riada. This competition crowns the champion of the old style sean nos singing with participants from around the globe. We will have plenty of conversation, laughs, tea and biscuits.

The Irish Language Oireachtas (meeting/assembly) is the largest annual festival celebrating the culture of the Irish speaking communities.

The Irish language community will join together in Killarney to enjoy the wide range of events through the median of Irish will be held from October 31st to November 3rd 2018.

The first Oireachtas festival convened on Monday May 17th 1897, in Dublin. Over the years the Oireachtas has grown. The Oireachtas survived the years by reinventing itself over time to give us the successful formula we have today.

The word Oireachtas comes from the ‘meeting’ or ‘convention’ the rulers of Ireland held in the 7th century. Until this day Oireachtas na Geailge follows the noble tradition of convening and debating as our ancestors did hundreds of years ago, welcoming young and old.

In the CJAC we understand the particular social importance associated with the Oireachtas. Irish language speakers and learners of the language get acquainted with each other and many a long-term friendship grows.

Young and old are welcome in The Eoin Mckiernan Library in the Celtic Junction Arts Center from 1pm –6pm on November 3rd as we celebrate Oireachtas na Samhna live from Killarney in County Kerry.
