Help OBI run away with the Roma!

Orkestar Bez Ime (meaning “orchestra without a name” in Bulgarian) was formed in 2002 to bring Balkan dance music to the Upper Midwest. Since then, OBI has performed throughout the US to much critical acclaim. Its members strive to bring you the sounds of the village with a presentation as festive as the music itself.

In 2011, Orkestar Bez Ime was honored with a McKnight Artist Fellowship for Performing Musicians, administered by MacPhail Center for Music.

Using the cash prize from this esteemed fellowship, OBI will be traveling to Serbia this summer to study at Amala, a school dedicated to the music, language, and dance of the Roma culture—widely known as Gypsy. Amala School is located in Valjevo, 100 kilometers southwest of Belgrade, and presents the unique opportunity to discover Romani and Serbian culture, music and dance in an authentic setting. This study trip represents OBI’s first opportunity to travel together and learn alongside one another.

The plane tickets have been purchased but OBI still needs help raising tuition funds so that all six members may attend Amala. This fundraising concert/dance will help OBI in raising the remaining funds. Give OBI a hand and enjoy a night of Music & Dance at the same time!
